Collin County takes care of Allen citizens. The government is headed by the Collin County Comminssoners’ Court, whose primary duties are approving the annual budget and all county expenditures, setting the county property tax rates, approving the tax roll and determining public works policy such as building programs, and conducting elections. The court appoints most non-elected department heads and standing committees and represents the county in state and regional matters, and has other duties including:

• establishing a courthouse and jail
• building roads and bridges
• assuring the safe-keeping of land and citizen records
• letting contracts in the name of the County
• providing law enforcement through the County sheriff
• administering the County’s public welfare services
• administering the County’s public health services
• performing numerous duties in regard to elections
• operating County parks
• appointing numerous officials
• issuing bonds
